Farringdon House

Residential

Overview

A private residential scheme in London’s Farringdon, which involved converting an existing, four-storey Victorian terrace house into a 4-bedroom, 3-bathroom family home.

Brief

To work around an existing conversion that dated back over a decade, originally created with a ‘bachelor pad’ feel and featuring lots of black surfaces / fixtures. The new scheme was to feature instead a neutral, European palette dominated by pale timber and elegantly minimal shaping, with clever storage and seamless integration of the client’s art collection.

Challenges

Although the existing architectural conversion, which included a lower-ground extension with light coming in from garden rooflights, provided a good base for the new scheme, high-ticket items that needed remedying, such as a poor air-conditioning conversion, had to be dealt with prior to the new scheme being implemented.
