align Director and Co-Founder Gurvinder Khurana is a passionate and highly-creative designer, with a clear understanding of design’s wonderful potential to create great spaces and optimise people’s ease, enjoyment and productive time spent in them. Constantly open to new influences, Gurvinder absorbs all that she comes into contact with and feeds the best of it - whether from fashion, design, architecture, typography or nature – back into her work.
She has a holistic approach to design that aims to balance an organization’s commercial and emotional requirements and values with those of its people, looking to “get under the skin” of clients to really understand their needs and aspirations.
Gurvinder’s lively and plainly-spoken opinions are often sought by the press and she has recently been quoted by the BCFA on creativity (‘it’s like jumping into a puddle’), by FX Magazine on its 25th anniversary (‘part of my life ever since I graduated!’) and asked to pick her favourite objects for MIX Interior’s regular feature ‘Desert Island Desks’. She has also served as a judge at both the Mixology Awards and the FX International Interior Design Awards.
align Director and Co-Founder Nigel Tresise brings huge experience of the world of architecture and construction to his projects, as well as a wealth of technical knowledge, a constant curiosity and a cool head to ensure that scheduling, programming and logistics are always realistic and fully aligned for the right result.
Prior to forming align with Gurvinder Khurana, Nigel’s experience covered the whole spectrum of construction from commercial office, residential, retail and hotels to academic projects in the UK and Europe. Prior to moving into consultancy, Nigel worked for a US-based construction company on projects including the 45-storey Hotel Arts in Barcelona.
Nigel also likes to write about design and its challenges and, in 2016, his article ‘Keeping it Brief’ looked at how to create briefs that ensure the right result and was published over two issues by MIX Interiors Magazine. Brief optimization is a specialist area for Nigel, whose MA Research from Central St Martins centred on the development of tools that can assist in the understanding of the analytical and emotional factors that affect organisations during project briefings.
